First Sergeant Retired Billie Ray Evans, Sr., 87 of Fayetteville, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2024.  Born in Orange County, Texas, he is the son of Van Dale Evans and Ella Mae Jeans Evans.  He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley T. Evans, and a daughter, Diane Evans.

He is survived by daughter, Natalie Erbe; sons, Billie R. Evans, Jr., and wife Vivian Evans, Mark A. Evans and wife Melnar Evans; 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard Evans, Butch Evans, Donald Evans, and a sister, Donna Compton.  

Mr. Evans retired from the United States Army after 20 plus years of service.   During his years of service, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Purple Heart, Parachute Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, Good Conduce Medal 1st-6th Awards, Army Commendation Medal 2d OLC, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Bronze Star Medal and Air Medal Ist OLC.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 30, 2024, in Cumberland Memorial Gardens, 4509 Raeford Road, Fayetteville.  Full Military Honors will be rendered by United States Army.  

Billie will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
