Joel Thomas Matthews, 77 of Fayetteville, passed away December 11, 2022.
Born in Harnett County, Joel is the son of the late Joel B. and Vernon Royal Matthews. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry Matthews and John “Tom” Matthews.
He is survived by his wife, Esther Matthews; daughter, Dianna Phillips; son, Dwayne Thomas Matthews; grandson, Christopher Phillips and girlfriend, Allison; great granddaughter, Aubryn Phillips; sisters, Shelba Hodges and husband Willis, and Connie Norris and husband Terry.
In his spare time, Joel enjoyed fishing and playing golf. He was a dedicated family man and a wonderful friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
