Paul Johnson, 70, of Fayetteville, passed away Monday, August 1, 2022 in his home with his wife by his side.
Born January 20th 1952, Paul was a native to Henderson, Kentucky. He is the son of the late Paul and Jessie Johnson.
He is survived by his wife Janet Johnson of 36 years. Together they raised two sons Tyler Johnson and Cody (Erin) Johnson, with a grandson due in December 2022. He is also survived by his older sisters Betty (Skip) King and Linda (Steve) Baker, along with many nieces and nephews.
Paul began his military career with the Marines in 1971 where he served four years. After a break in service, he graduated college at the University of Western Kentucky.
He then joined the Army where he served and retired with honors at Fort Bragg in 2009, as a Chief Warrant Officer Four.
Paul’s military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2OLC), Army Commendation Medal (3OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal (3 Award), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 3 Service Stars (BSS), NCO Professional Development Ribbons, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Marine Corps Meritorious Mast Medal, Saudi Arabian Liberation of Kuwait, Kuwait Liberation of Kuwait, Humanitarian Service Medal, Airborne Badge, and Air Assault Badge.
Paul enjoyed several outdoor activities such hunting, fishing and spending quality time with his family. His favorite past times included watching the Kentucky Wildcats and the Dallas Cowboys. “GO COWBOYS!” After retirement, Paul enjoyed serving the community of Fayetteville, NC by helping fellow veterans, collecting bicycles for children in the surrounding areas and serving food to the underprivileged. Paul will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
