Thomas Hayward Patrick

May 24, 1965 — March 21, 2024

Hope Mills

Thomas Hayward Patrick, 58, of Hope Mills, North Carolina, was born on May 24, 1965 and went to be with the Lord on March 21, 2024. He died peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hilda Grey Patrick and Thomas Horace Patrick. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 30 years, Cathy, his 3 sons, Daniel (Emily), Dalton, and Andrew, as well as his two grandchildren, Lucas and Lainey, his siblings, James Cole (Treva), Tim Cole (Sherry), Margaret Goff (Dave) and Ric (Tricia), his mother-in-law, Louise Batten (Sam), father-in-law, Daniel Walker (Ann) sister-in-law, Sandy Prottengeier, and brother in-law, Gary Britt, and many nephews and nieces.

Tom grew up on many military bases following his father’s army life. One of his favorite things was to swim in the river in Okinawa. He also enjoyed shore fishing and body surfing at Virginia Beach. You could often find him playing various sports. When he was in Fulda, Germany, his pitching lead his little league baseball team to qualify to represent Europe in the little league world series. Tom had a love for music. He would take many trains to a lot of rock concerts across different countries in Europe.

Tom worked for the Public Works Division at Fort Bragg as a civilian from July 1989 through March 2024. He started in the maintenance division and was skilled in many areas: plumber, electrician, and HVAC. He served as a work leader in the maintenance division. He was later promoted to construction inspector and construction control representative where he worked for the remainder of his career. Tom directly supported mission readiness by ensuring Soldiers and their families had safe, operational, and modernized facilities to live and work in. Tom established himself as “the subject matter expert” and he was a valuable resource for anything mechanical.

Tom enjoyed many activities, like capturing memories with his camera and more recently with his iPhone. He had a physically active lifestyle and genuinely enjoyed working out. He was up for any challenging work out program that came his way.

Tom’s family was his world. He was a dedicated husband and father, who loved his wife and sons immensely. He showed his love through his selfless and sacrificial acts. He supported his boys in different ways, always offering wisdom and guidance. He never missed a ball game; from t-ball and peewee football to wrestling matches and Friday night lights. He enjoyed his time spent fishing with each of his boys. His newest blessings, Lucas and Lainey, gave him the gift of being a “Pawpaw”. He cherished every moment spent with his grand babies, and they loved their Pawpaw.

Tom and Cathy were married for 30 years. They were partners in life as they raised their boys and became grandparents. They enjoyed family outings and gatherings, and they shared a love of watching movies together. Their favorite pastime was being together and telling stories. Tom and Cathy’s marriage was filled with love, joy, and endless belly laughs. Above all, their greatest journey was finding Christ and growing in their faith together.
