Woodie Hemmingway

Woodie Weldon Hemmingway, 72 of Hope Mills, passed away peacefully at his home, Sunday, February 5, 2023.

Born in Cumberland County, he is the son of the late Woodrow and Aline Hemmingway. He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Aimee Hemmingway.

He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Holland Hemmingway of 51 years; a son, Wayne Hemmingway; granddaughter, Sara Reyes; great granddaughter, Hayden Jernigan; and sisters, Dot McVickers and Jane Wagner.

Woodie was a fun-loving kind of guy. He was an avid Duke basketball fan and enjoyed NASCAR racing. His favorite pass time was to be outside in the sun, enjoyed splashing in the pool or dancing with Hayden and loved to go to the beach. If you were to ask him what his greatest accomplishment was, he would tell you he was blessed with a wonderful family. He always greeted you with a warm smile. Woodie will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
