Dorle Mae (Hodges) Turner

October 16, 1970 ~ September 26, 2021 (age 50)

Obituary

Dorle Mae Turner of Hope Mills, North Carolina died peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 26, 2021.

She was born in Nuremberg, Germany to Raleigh Pete Hodges and Hannelore Margarete A. (Polzin) Hodges on October 16, 1970. Her family moved to the United States when she was 8 years old. They lived in Kansas and numerous other states before settling in North Carolina. Dorle, better known as Dee, Mama Dee, or Mousie, graduated from Fayetteville State University with a Bachelor’s in Education and served as a Librarian for 18 years at the East Regional and Fayetteville Headquarters Libraries. Her love of reading came from her mother who also worked at the Headquarters Library for many years.

Dee was married to her husband of 27 years, Hubert Morrison Turner, III on March 5, 1994, at Hope Mills United Methodist Church. Dee’s biggest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her children Olivia and Ian. The beach was a very special place for Dee and her family. She loved shark tooth hunting on Topsail Beach followed by lunch on the water at Elijah's in Wilmington. Her other hobbies included frequenting estate sales, knowing every answer to the questions on Jeopardy, long drives with her husband, and reading every book in the library. She was known to those who love her as the trusted "what should I read next?" advisor. Bert and Dee also volunteered with Carolina Basset Hound Rescue transporting basset hounds across North Carolina for adoption.

Dee is preceded in death by her mother, Hannelore Margarete A. (Polzin) Hodges and father, Raleigh Pete Hodges of Fayetteville, NC.

She is survived by her husband, Hubert Turner of Hope Mills; daughter, Olivia Kathleen Turner of Charlotte; son, Ian Jacob Turner of Fayetteville; brother, Michael P. Hodges and his wife Margaret Ann Eldridge of Corpus Christi, TX; and mother-in-law, Charlotte Turner and father-in-law, Hubert (Morrie) Turner of Hope Mills.

Dee will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Dee's honor be made to the Carolina Bassett Hound Rescue at the link below.
