Michael Seegars

October 22, 1964 — August 23, 2021

Parkton, NC

Michael “Bo” Seegars, 56, left this earth on Monday, August 23, 2021, to walk through eternity with his Heavenly Father.  Bo loved life and lived it to the fullest.

Bo enjoyed traveling with his family, cruising, dancing at deck parties, riding roller coasters, sitting on any beach, and finding the jacuzzi in every hotel.  An avid sportsman, Bo enjoyed playing church softball and basketball, playing golf at every opportunity, and loved coaching young baseball players, especially his favorite #10.

Bo graduated from Douglas Byrd High School in 1982.   He joined the Army shortly after high school and served the country he loved for 10 years, including during the Desert Storm conflict.  During this time Bo married Karen Tew, a beautiful Christian woman who was the mother of his four children.  Bo would be the first to say that basketball and Karen were what led him to the Lord as a teenager, through the sports ministry at Massey Hill Baptist Church.  During Karen’s battle with breast cancer and ultimate passing, Bo left the Army and returned to his home in North Carolina.  He worked for the State of North Carolina for 22 years until he retired from DOT in 2015 but began working again through DPW at Fort Bragg.  Bo was first a member of Massey Hill Baptist Church, a longtime member of Highland Baptist Church in Hope Mills, and finally a member of Temple Baptist Church in Eastover where his wife serves on staff.

In 2003, God ordained a meeting through friends that would eventually lead to the marriage of Bo to Dawn Seegars on October 6, 2006.  For the last 18 years of his life, they loved their family, loved each other, and served the Lord together.  Bo was always the biggest supporter of the worship ministry, but also gifted as a Sunday School teacher and discipleship leader.  He traveled as far as Ukraine and Venezuela teaching discipleship with some of his closest friends.  In 2015 and 2016 Bo and Dawn traveled together to Romania with teams who served remote villages through VBS, sports, teaching, and worship.  Bo was a shy person until he got to know people, or until it came to telling people about Jesus.

Bo also loved to travel for fun and visit other cities and countries across the globe.  In the company of his adoring wife, great friends, and family he has seen the sun rise and set on the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean, countless other countries, and theme parks everywhere.  He loved to snorkel, taught many kids how to ride waves, and never rode a roller coaster without his hands in the air.

Bo leaves behind his loving wife Dawn and son Preston of the home, mother Cheryl Seegars, son Ryan Seegars and wife Kristina, daughters Amber Kennedy and her husband Jonathan, Candice Lewis and her husband Mark, and Brittany Seegars, and stepsons Austin Jordan and Evan Jordan.  Also left to honor his memory are his sister Teresa, sister Sharon and husband Jim, brother Kevin and wife Michelle, sisters Dorothy, Deborah, brother Billy Jr., grandchildren Skylr, Tanyr Bo, Graclyn, Ryder, Isabella, Liam, and Everleigh, mother-in-law Carole Clark, many nieces and nephews, and friends that are like family.  The words step, half, and in-law never applied to Bo, as he loved his family and those around him regardless of label or relation.

Bo will be remembered by all who knew him for his contagious smile, boisterous laugh, and the way he loved and served his family, friends, and his Lord and Savior.  A service to honor his life will be held on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Temple Baptist Church in Eastover, NC.    Visitation will be from 5:00-6:30pm, with services following at 6:30pm.  Bo will be laid to rest on Monday, August 30, 2021 at 11:00am at Lafayette Cemetery West on Raeford Road.
