William Dumas

William James “Bill” Dumas, 70 of Hope Mills,  passed away Thursday, November 23, 2021 in his home with family by his side.

Born September 28, 1951 in Camden, Arkansas, Bill is the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Dumas and Hattie Mae Sanders Dumas. Along with his parents, he is also preceded in death by his son, Jahmez Dumas; brother, Robert Dumas; and stepfather, Frank Sapp.

Bill is survived by his wife, Ethel Willias Dumas; son, Jamel Dumas, granddaughter and love of his life, Jayla Dumas; brothers, Curtis Dumas, Benjamin Dumas, and Kevin Sapp; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family members and friends.

Honorably serving his country during the Vietnam War, Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He would later work for several years as a building space analyst for the City of New York. Life’s journey would take Bill to many other places over the years including Pennsylvania and Florida, before finally ending up in North Carolina. Being a huge activist for civil rights, his dedication was evident through his work as a member of the NAACP as well as a member and former president of Citizens Against Discrimination and Social Injustice (CADSI). Bill was also a proud member of the United School Employees of Pasco-Retired (USEP-R), an organization dedicated to the well-being of public education professionals.

In his spare time, Bill enjoyed fishing, watch horror movies, eating out, taking random bus rides, and most importantly, spending quality time with his family. He was devout Christian and former church deacon who is now at home with his Heavenly Savior.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Bill will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
